Five months of blood sweat and a lot of tears (to be honest), Tangia had its grand opening September 15th, 2012. The Ambassador from Morocco was the appointed ribbon cutter. I had made the ribbon a bit too decadent with a few layers, so he struggled to cut through. There were a few awkward glances being cast my way by the hotels general manager, so I went over to help but he had just finished cutting through on his own thankfully. I was introduced to the ambassador over dinner and he said he felt at home being in the restaurant which was a very kind praise.
Tangia is located in the lobby of Wyndham Grand Regency hotel in Doha, Qatar. I needed to create a dramatic entrance to sweep lobby guests out of Doha, and in to Morocco upon entrance. What better way than to introduce the restaurant with traditional Moroccan gypsum carvings. I was able to hire and entire Moroccan staff to execute the entrance to ensure authenticity. They worked hard for a week on these three walls and I think the end result is rather spectacular. They taught me their techniques each step of the way and I've laid them out visually for you to see!
I blew up and framed a handful of photos I took in Morocco, to decorate the walls of Tangia. Since most of the decor photos don't show them up close, I thought I'd show case them here.
